The Fall SCSPA Conference brought together yearbook editors, literary magazine creators and scholastic journalists from student media across the state for a full day of programs to improve their craft and learn from experts in the field.
SCSPA hosted nearly 300 students and advisers from 18 schools for the annual event hosted at the University of South Carolina’s Russell House.
Advisers brought their teams to engage in sessions covering every media type – yearbook, literary magazine, broadcast, online and newspaper.
With 20 sessions offered across the day, participants had a wide menu of topics from which to choose. Each session allowed students to gain knowledge from professionals and to ask questions, share ideas and develop advice for their own staffs.
During the awards ceremony, keynote speaker Darryl Huger, news director of South Carolina ETV and Public Radio, encouraged students to stay dedicated to their work. Huger is a graduate of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. He asked the crowd who thought they could have his job one day, followed by the majority of the room standing with courage.
To celebrate outstanding work and leadership, SCSPA concluded the day with the awards ceremony. For the full list of winners across media types, visit our website.
