On Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, the South Carolina Scholastic Press Association was happy to welcome 340 middle and high school students and advisers from 17 schools from across South Carolina to the annual SCSPA Fall 2024 Conference.
The conference, hosted by the University of South Carolina College of Information and Communications, highlighted a variety of student media, including yearbook and literary arts magazine, and also featured individual and program awards in a ceremony at the end of the conference.
The SCSPA Fall Conference also aimed to educate young journalists on different practices in modern media. A large range of presenters covering various journalistic topics spoke to students, including Adam Myrick’s “Tips for the Cops and Crime Beat,” Ali Tunney’s “Going for Gold: A Journalist’s Journey,” “The Tortured Writers Department” by Kristina Syrigos and Cade Crenshaw’s “Turning Players into People: Sports Broadcasting Goes Beyond a Jersey Number.”
Registration details for the Spring SCSPA Conference on March 26, 2025, will be shared in December. SCSPA cannot wait to have students back on campus for the Spring Conference and encourages students and advisers to save the date.
